Linking to a Specific Page in a Document

How to link directly to a specific page in a Synthesis document so it opens on that page, via Copy Link or the link/resource dialog.

You can link directly to a specific page in a document stored in Synthesis, so the link opens the document on that page instead of the first page. This works the same way as linking to a chapter in a video or a section of a page with an anchor link. It's useful for long documents like employee handbooks, standards manuals, or policy guides, where the content someone needs is on page 6 or page 40 and not on page 1.

Deep links to document pages work anywhere you can add a link in Synthesis, including:

  • The Content Outliner

  • Posts

  • Pages

  • Lessons

  • Navigation Blocks

  • Best Bets

Copy a link to a specific document page

When you copy a link to a document from the document preview, the Copy Link to Document dialog lets you choose which page the link opens on.

  1. Open the document so you're viewing it in the document preview.

  2. Optional: scroll to the page you want to link to. The Starting Page dropdown is pre-filled with the page you're viewing when you copy the link.

  3. Click the ellipsis in the document preview and select Copy Link.

  4. In the Copy Link to Document dialog, confirm the page in the Starting Page dropdown, or select a different page.

  5. Click Copy Link.

  6. Paste the link wherever you need it, such as a post, a page, a lesson, a Navigation Block, the Content Outliner, or a Best Bet.

If you open the dialog without scrolling, the Starting Page dropdown shows Page 1. If you've scrolled to another page, for example page 6, the dropdown shows Page 6. You can change it either way before you click Copy Link.

Link to a specific document page from the link/resource dialog

When you add a link to a document from a link/resource dialog, such as Add Text Link in a post, page, or lesson, a Starting Page dropdown appears once you select the document.

  1. In the link/resource dialog, enter the name of the document in the [Intranet Name] Resource text field and select it.

  2. Select a page from the Starting Page dropdown. Page 1 is the default.

  3. Edit the other link/resource options as needed, such as Open in New Tab or Linked Text.

  4. Click Apply or Save.
